The Popstars team of 6 road cyclists joined 7,500 other entrants who took up the challenge to cycle the 160km distance around the stunning and hilly circuit of Lake Taupo. Solid performances were recorded by Team members who have competed over multiple years at this hugely popular event as well as the newcomers who acquitted themselves well and enjoyed the day. The weather was a little unforgiving early in the morning with cold temperatures and light rain testing the character of riders over the most hilly sections of the course. Conditionsthen switched to bright sunshine with strong cross/tailwinds for the latter homeward stages. Expect to see more reports posted over the Summer as training continues for events in March & April in the pursuit to become faster and more physically aerodynamic after Christmas excesses!
